This Old Café



This Old Café by Marci Boudreaux depicts the story of Jenna Reid and Daniel Maguire. Jenna has recently divorced and is trying to make a name for herself. She’s left past hurts behind her, and she is seeking a new life of independence. Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Maguire is in a least likely place for someone who’s given his life to his country. He’s homeless. He’s sleeping behind dumpsters and eating out of them, but he takes interest in looking out for Jenna. His past holds him hostage, and he’s likely to lose his temper in attempts to defend the helpless. When it comes to Jenna, something draws Daniel to her. He takes notice of her daily routines, and when he hears her screaming, he runs to the rescue. Jenna doesn’t immediately take to the stranger, but she does want to help him. The question is, is it worth it?

By the time I got through the first chapter, Marci Boudreaux had my full attention with this story. I loved how I could feel the emotions of the characters. Jenna is still suffering from her past insecurities, and Daniel wants to break free from his own personal demons. These characters are literally two broken souls, but they are trying to heal together. The author shows in this story how love can transform pain into something new and better. I truly thought this story was beautiful and both Jenna and Daniel are relatable. Things from our past can hinder and sometimes rob us from our present. We all have a choice. We can either let it break us or it can make us stronger. It’s not easy, and sometimes it doesn’t always work out. It takes courage and I think the author depicts this in her characters. The only thing that disappointed me about this story was when I came to the last page. I wasn’t ready for it to be over.

  Arranged : A Clean Billionaire Romance by Trisha Grace From the first chapter, this story engrossed me. I love Hayley and her spirit. She realizes her "dream" husband is just a dream, but due to unforeseen circumstances, she must press into her faith to take care of a man that doesn't want her around. Julian doesn't see Hayley as his wife, but her kindness towards him has him questioning her intentions. I love Trisha's depiction of both faith and love in this story. Hayley and Julian are both relatable, but Hayley is definitely my favorite in this story. I love her strength, her faith in God, and how she depends on Him to help with her rocky marriage. I look forward to reading more by Trisha Grace. Beautiful story, with even more twists and turns to keep us readers guessing.

Of course, I don't offer in the hopes of "what can you do for me?" If a story sparks my interest and I have the time, I don't mind helping a fellow author in my genre. I know I can't read everyone's work, but I aim to sharpen my skills when it comes to plot development, character arcs, narratives, etc. Doing this, however, I have found authors are more open to reading my work since I took the time to read theirs. My experience with Self Publishing

Currently, I publish with Smashwords.com . As a writer, I can publish my books for free and they are distributed to major retail stores i.e. Apple Books, Barnes and Noble, Kobo, etc. How has this worked for me in comparison to the traditional route? While there are a few manuscripts I want to submit to publishers, as a self-published author I enjoy the freedom of writing in my own time. I set my own deadlines, and I discipline myself to meet those dates. Do they change? Of course, life happens all the time, but again, I have the freedom to make that decision. A downside to this is everything depends on me i.e. professional editing, cover design, marketing, and promotion, etc. It's a lot of work for one person to handle, and I have yet to develop a full team around me to help with my brand as an author.
